Meet Lorinda: Enthusiastic Entreprenuer and Creative Visionary
The Heart Behind Tru Blue
Early Beginnings
My path to entrepreneurship was paved by a profound passion for business, which began right out of St. Clair County's Tec program in the '80s, specializing in General Merchandising. This passion was further nurtured by my job at Hudson's during college. Having lived and raised our four children in my hometown of Memphis, MI I felt a boutique close to home would be a welcome addition to our area. With a background in education, a business degree, and the support of my partner Chris, (also a business owner) I merged my love for fashion merchandising with an entrepreneurial spirit, embarking on an exciting journey in the clothing industry at the age of 50!
Creating Tru Blue
My vision was to create a space where women could find stylish, high-quality clothing and accessories close to home. I've encountered a few bumps and bruises along the way- disolving an early partnership followed by the Covid pandemic. Gradually, Tru Blue recovered and quickly become known in the Detroit area for having a carefully curated collection of women's and men's clothing. Located in the picturesque Riverview Plaza, we strive to offer a shopping experience that is both relaxing and inspiring. I am fortunate to have teamed up with Sandy and Cindy who graciously extend an open and inviting atmosphere, reflecting our commitment to making every customer feel welcome and special.
Philosophy
At times, I would feel uneasy about promoting consumerism, but I found reassurance in the significant role that clothing plays in our lives. One particular day, I worked with several different women in search of something for major life events; the impending funeral of a woman's mother; a new mom starting to get back into "normal clothes"; an educator presenting to a board of Michigan State Senators; and an older mother-of-the-bride looking for something suitable to wear to an outdoor rehersal dinner. I realized then that the clothes we wear are a form of self-expression, communicating our tastes, moods, and even our beliefs. When we choose outfits that align with our personal style, it not only enhances our appearance but also boosts our confidence. My goal is to offer clothing that helps women feel comfortable and authentic, empowering them to face the world, whatever the situation, with greater self-assurance, reinforcing a sense of identity and uniqueness.
Community Engagement
I believe one of the things that sets Tru Blue Boutique apart is the personal touch we bring to our customer's experience. We love to get to know our customers, understand their needs, and provide individual recommendations. This approach has helped foster a strong sense of connection and loyalty among our clientele. My dedication to the community also extends beyond the walls of the boutique. We frequently support a variety of charitable causes and collaborate with other local businesses.
Future Aspirations
Being a successful business owner is partly due to having a fresh perspective and discovering innovative ideas to help shape the boutique's unique identity. Growing pains are always involved in the process, but with each obstacle, I have learned to evolve and embrace the journey. In essence, I encourage investing in timeless, well-made clothing that is also a celebration of individuality and a step toward sustainable, thoughtful living.Tru Blue is not just a store, it is a place that reflects my passion, creativity, and a commitment to helping fellow women feel confident and stylish.
